Obituary

Cathleen A. "Cathy" (Goodwin) Canney, a 31 year resident of Medford and formerly of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers following a 7 month courageous battle with cancer. She was 61 years old.

Cathy was born in Boston on September 13, 1955, a daughter of the late Ralph A. Goodwin Jr. and Barbara A. (Lonergan) Goodwin. She grew up in Charlestown where she was educated at St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Girls Latin High School in Boston in 1973. She furthered her education and received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Spanish from Emmanuel College in 1977. Cathy worked for over 10 years as a Clerk for Stop & Shop Company in Medford. She was an avid Patriots fan, enjoyed traveling to Foxwoods but most important to Cathy in her lifetime was the love and care she was able to share with her children and husband.

Cathy is the beloved wife of 31 years to Boston Police Lieutenant Joseph H. Canney. She is the devoted and loving mother to Caitlin E. Canney and Sean J. Canney. She is the beloved sister of Ralph A. "Buddy" Goodwin III and William Goodwin.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Cathy's Funeral on Thursday, August 17, 2017 at 10 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Francis De Sales Church, 313 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown at 11 A.M. Her burial will be private. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. in the funeral home.
