Alice T. (Sheehan) Stephens, age 93 of Lake Placid Florida, recently of Framingham Mass (Carmel Terrace Assisted Living Center) passed away at Parlin House Hospice Center in Wayland on Saturday, August 12 2017 following a long illness.
Born in New Bedford, Mass, in 1924 she was the daughter of Catherine “McCauley” Sheehan, of County Cork and John Sheehan, of County Leitrim, Ireland. She was a graduate of Holy Family High School and attended business school before going to work for U.S. Government in Washington DC following her marriage to her beloved husband Oliver J. Stephens (“OJ or Steve”) who was her hero and a Major in U.S. Army. Their marriage took place in Greenville, Mississippi on December 21, 1945 and shortly after, traveling began which led them to living in Alaska, Japan, Korea, Seattle, New Orleans, Alexandria Virginia and finally, after retiring, in a beautiful lakeside community Lake Placid Florida, where they lived happily until “OJ’s” passing in 2005.

Alice was predeceased by three sisters, Mary Young, Helen Sheehan, Theresa Deluga, and one brother Paul Sheehan. She is survived by her 92 year old sister Elizabeth “Betty” Montigny of New Bedford and several nieces, nephews and dozens of cousins in the U.S. and Ireland.

Although they never had children, they had several pets that were loved by them both and dozens of friends that will now sorely miss them both. Alice & Steve were both ardent golfers and spend many hours each week on the courses in Lake Placid.

In addition, Alice was a devoted member of St, James Catholic Church in Lake Placid where she served the parish community as a Eucharistic Minister, religious education teacher and cantor, where her voice has been sorely missed. In addition, when she wasn’t doing all those things she was hand crafting rosary beads to donate to causes.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday August 17 at 11:30 A.M. in St Patrick Church 44 East Central Street Natick. Visiting hours in the John Everett and Sons Funeral Home 4 Park Street, at Natick Common are Thursday morning beginning at 10:00 A.M prior to the Mass.

In lieu of flowers expressions of sympathy may be made in Alice’s memory to Saint Vincent DePaul (c/o St. Patrick’s Church) or Care Group Parmenter Hospice, 266 Cochituate Road, Wayland, MA 01778.
