Obituary

Martinez, GA - Mickey C. Barefield, 52, loving husband of Dr. Tracy Barefield, entered into rest on Thursday, August 10, 2017.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 19, 2017 at Platt’s Funeral Home Belair Rd. Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM until time of service.

While Mickey was considered a man of many words, his acts of compassion and love are the imprints that are stitched into the community today. People around the CSRA mourn the loss of a husband, father, hard worker and more importantly a friend to everyone. On March 14, 1965 Mick was born in Savannah, Georgia and shortly after, his family moved to Millen, Georgia where his roots that many grew fond of were planted. By the age of 15 he was proving to everyone that hard work and dedication were the keys to success. Nevertheless, his humor and acts of caring allowed people to see the man Mickey Barefield truly was. By the late 90’s he had discovered true love through his wife, Tracy and raised two wonderful sons, James and Jacob. From then on, he would dedicate his work, time and care to his family.

Mickey worked at Plant Vogtle as a Plant Equipment Operator for 13 years and in 1998 elected to stay home with his sons. He was Mr. Mom for three years. He joined Center for Primary Care in 2001 where he was Maintenance Manager for 16 years. Mick was an excellent marksman and loved to share his talents and knowledge with his family and friends. He was a Brother at Fleming Lodge in Augusta, Georgia.

While mourning is an easy way to cope with death Mickey would enjoy others celebrating the life he lived. By celebrating his life, we have the ability to understand the definition of immortality. While he is no longer with us anymore, we can rejoice in a legacy that will never die.

In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons; James Barefield, Jacob Barefield, mother and father -in-law; Ellen and Arthur Salenger of N. Augusta, SC, sister-in-law; Susan Smith and husband Doug of N. Augusta, SC, nephew; Sam Smith of N. Augusta, SC, cousin Charles Brannen and wife Trish of Midville, GA, special friends; David Hood and Tawny Tuccitto.

If so desired, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
