New Bedford – Michael J. Alvarez, 54, of New Bedford passed away unexpectedly August 9, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital.
Michael was born in Boston, son of the late Carolyn T. (Barbuto) Alvarez and Robert D. Alvarez of Lynn, and resided in New Bedford most of his life. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was employed as a technician at Acushnet Company, Ball Plant 3 where he had worked for 30 years and also served on the Fast Team there. A generous and caring man, he supported many local and national charities. He was a member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. He enjoyed motorcycle riding and movies but most of all, spending time with his family and friends.
In addition to his father, he is survived by 2 brothers: Stephen P. Alvarez of Berkley and Robert V. Alvarez of Georgia; 2 sisters: Kelley E. Spellman of Hull and Mary E. DiMarco of Maine; his stepmother: Sandra H. (Stone) Watkins-Alvarez of Lynn; and several nieces & nephews.
He was brother of the late Kimberly H. Alvarez.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend memorial visiting hours at the Kirby Funeral Home, 61 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford on Monday, August 14, 2017, 5:00-7:30 P.M. followed immediately by a memorial service at 7:30 P.M.
