Marie Theresa Longo Baxter, 82 of Methuen, MA– Passed on Friday, August 4, 2017, after a short illness, at Cedar View Rehabilitation Center in Methuen, MA. Marie leaves her loving husband of 58 years, Matthew Henry Baxter (Son of Leroy and Bridget (Dunn) Baxter Cronin formerly of Lynn, MA.
Marie was born in Lawrence, MA and was the daughter of Anthony Longo and Carmela Rose (Melucci) Longo Incropera. She attended St. Laurence O’Toole Grammar School and graduated from Lawrence High School at the age of 16 years old. After graduation Marie was hired by the J. F. Bingham Sheet Metal Company of Lawrence, as a secretary proficient in shorthand and hi-speed typing skills. Later, Marie joined Massachusetts Electric & Gas Company of Lawrence and worked as an Executive Assistant for more than 33 years before taking voluntary retirement. Marie’s priorities in life were her family and her association with St. Monica’s Parish in Methuen, including the construction of the Parish School and the relocation of the Church. Marie was a near perfectionist and proverbial magnet that kept the entire extended family as close to one another as possible. She was the oldest of three children and cherished her senior role of leadership in all matters. During her final days Marie voiced her concerns for her beloved husband “Matt,” and for his continued health and well-being. Marie lived in Methuen for more than 65 years, and was extremely loyal to local businesses and contractor services. Marie was well loved by all her friends and neighbors in Methuen’s West end. She was an avid fan of both the Patriot’s and the Red Sox. Marie loved animals but particularly horses and her three dogs and best friends, Inci I, II and III. For many years she enjoyed doing needlepoint, but above all and from a very young age, she loved to read.
Marie also leaves behind her sister Angeline Jane Longo Powell & her husband Hartley A. Powell of Windham, NH (Hartley is the Son of Herbert & Leslie (Le Grand) Powell); her brother Anthony J. Longo, widower of Patricia A. (Spinney) Longo of Salem, NH (Pat was the Daughter of Bernard & Marion [McPherson] Spinney); her niece and Goddaughter Judith L. Powell of Windham, NH (Judy is the Daughter of Angeline & Hartley Powell); her nephews Mark A. Longo and James C . Longo of Florida (Sons of Anthony J. Longo). Marie was also a great Aunt to Nicholas Charles Bradley of Methuen, MA and Alexander “AJ” James Longo of Florida (“AJ” is the Son of James C. and Danielle L. (Bethea) Longo; Danielle is the daughter of John & Patricia (Glover) Bethea of Central Florida).
Friends and guests are invited to call on Thursday, August 10, 2017 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday, August 11, 2017 at 9:00 AM at St. Monica’s Parish of Methuen. Interment to follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
