Obituary

NATICK: Theodore L. “Ted” Morrow, Jr., age 90, a longtime Natick resident and devoted family man, died on Friday afternoon, August 4, 2017, at the MetroWest Medical enter in Natick. He was the devoted husband of Lucy A. (Pignatiello) Morrow for 71 years.

Born, raised and educated in Ashland, he was a son of the late Theodore L. and Edith L. (Barrows) Morrow. The eldest boy of eight, Ted began working to help support the family at the age of 7, stocking shelves at a grocery store in town. He joined the Navy straight from high school and served with the Seabees in the Pacific Theatre until the end of World War II. Upon his return home, he and Lucy were married.

The couple procured land in Natick and Ted decided, without any prior experience, to build a house for his bride. Driving a truck at night, he was able to devote daylight hours to his task. After seven years, the finishing touches were put on the house that the Morrows have called home ever since. No longer needing to work nights, Ted joined the staff at the Natick Cooperative Grocery Store and learned the art of meat cutting. He would go on to be a meat cutter with Stop & Shop for over 30 years, retiring in the early 90s. Retirement didn’t suit him though and Ted went to work with Roche Bros, continuing to cut meat until age 85. He was a past union steward of the United Food and Commercial Workers.

One of Ted’s great pleasures was keeping his yard and he continued to mow the lawn until last month. His gardens, which he spent considerable caring for, have been a wonderful source of beauty inn his neighborhood for years. Ted and Lucy enjoyed frequent family trips to Frye Island, Maine, staying at a vacation home owned by Lucy’s sister, Angie Rehill. In recent years they’ve spent the winter months in Deerfield, Florida, with their daughter Ann.

Ted is survived by Lucy; their daughter Ann L. Morrow of Deerfield Beach, FL; their son, Michael J. Morrow and fiancé Terri Wallace of Natick; and a large loving extended family of Morrows and Pignatiellos. He was predeceased by his daughter, Nancy A. Morrow; his sisters, Dorothy Carter, Phyllis Hodges Mercer, Thelma Kruger, and Barbara Capen Hadley; and his brothers, Donald, Robert, and Kenneth Morrow.

His funeral will be from the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Wednesday, August 9th at 9:00AM with a Mass of Christian Burial in Saint Patrick’s Church, 44 East Central Street, Natick, at 10AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Saint Patrick Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, August 8th from 4 – 7PM. Donations in Ted’s memory may be made to the American Lung Association, Massachusetts, 14 Beacon Street, Suite 717, Boston, MA 02108.
