Obituary

Jennie M. (Oliveri) Marotta, a Medford resident for over sixty years, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 4th at the Woburn Nursing Center. She was ninety-two.

Born in Chelsea, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Giacoma (Cardile) Oliveri and attended local schools. After high school she worked as a seamstress in the textile industry until retirement.

Jennie was a woman of faith and lived her life in accordance with Christian values: love, hope and charity. She was the type of person who cared for others and who others could depend on. She served as a Eucharistic minister at Saint Francis of Assisi Church for many years and was an active member of the Saint Francis Mother’s Club. After the death of her son, Charles, she was the driving force that began a scholarship in his memory at Malden Catholic High School. To this day, the scholarship has helped many students succeed on their scholastic journeys.

In her spare time, Jennie enjoyed bowling, playing bingo, watching the Boston Red Sox, cooking and hosting family dinners. Her family was the most important part of her life and there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for them. She was a fun person with an infectious personality. When she was younger, she enjoyed traveling. One of her most memorable trips was to Villa Roma. She also loved visiting Foxwoods, Las Vegas and traveling the state of California.

Jennie was the beloved wife of the late Armando Marotta who passed away in 1995. They were married on April 13, 1947 and shared forty-eight loving years of marriage. She was the devoted mother of Charles “Chuck” Marotta who passed away in 1976. Jennie was the dear sister of the late Antonia Micalizzi, the late Pauline Bombaci, the late Joseph Oliveri, and the late Louise Proia. She was the cherished aunt of many loving nieces and nephews.

Her funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Wednesday, August 9th at 9AM followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated in Saint Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 10AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 through 8PM. Services will conclude with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.
