Obituary

Mr. Sidney S. Mros, of Taunton, entered into rest Friday, August 4 in the McCarthy Care Center, Sandwich, following a period of declining health. He was the beloved husband of Madeline C. (Goodwin) Mros for 72 years. He was born 97 years ago in Taunton, the son of the late Sidney K. and Sadie (Korzenowski) Mros. He was educated in Taunton and was a lifelong city resident. Prior to his retirement, Sidney was employed as an Engineer for the Taunton Municipal Lighting Plant. Previously, he was a self-employed paper hanger. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served with 1st Armored Division, Company C, 16th Armored Engineer Battalion in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre. He participated in the Tunisia, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, North Apennines and Po Valley Campaigns. He was awarded the American Defense Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon. He enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking and baking, and bicycling. He was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Parish in Taunton.

In addition to his wife, he leaves: 3 daughters: Linda Mros of Taunton, Sandra Mros and her companion, Mario Oliveira, of Taunton, and Karen McKillop and her husband, David, of Lakeville; 3 granddaughters: Amy McKillop of Vermont, Wendy McKillop-Slagle and her husband, Theo of Washington, D.C., and Kristy McKillop and her fiancé Jason and his son, Lawson, of Weymouth; 1 great grandson: Teddy Slagle; a sister-in-law: Margaret Goodwin of Quincy; a family friend, Nancy Lingelbach; his spotted friend, “Annie,” and several nieces and nephews. Sidney was also the father of the late Dianne Bonenfant of Taunton, and brother of the late Edmond, Raymond, Frederick, Henry, Marion Mros, Josephine Gilbert, Virginia Gilday, and Helen Abbott.

A Visiting Hour will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, on Tuesday, August 8, from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. A Funeral Service will follow the Visitation, Tuesday at 11:00 A.M. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
