Obituary

CONCORD: Richard John Higgins, age 76, a longtime resident of Deerfield, NH, formerly of Concord, MA, died on Saturday, July 22, 2017, at Newton-Wellesley Hospital. He had been the devoted husband of Pamela F. (Gentry) Higgins for 38 years.

Born, raised, and educated in Lowell, MA he was a son of the late Thomas and Florabel (Drumm) Higgins. Richard served with the US Army as a private with the 34 Infantry during the Vietnam War. He and Pamela later married and settled in Concord to raise their family.

Richard was the “jack of all trades, master of none” as he liked to say. He worked as a steeplejack, drove cars for the Concord Auto Auction, worked in the Concord Public School System, and as a security guard at the Mill in Maynard. He was a longtime member of the Concord Lodge of Elks #959. He enjoyed authentic 50’s diners and classic cars, particularly his 1950 Ford Classic, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by Pamela, their children Craig P. Higgins and his wife Mary of Orange, and Crysti L. Iarossi and her husband Michael of Natick; and five grandchildren, Owen, Abigail, and Craig Higgins, and Thomas and Stella Iarossi. Richard was also the brother of the late Edward, Thomas, Walter, James, Robert, and Margaret (Lamoureux) Higgins.

His memorial service will be held in the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street at Natick Common, on Sunday, August 13th at 12:00PM, followed by a celebration of life at the Natick Elks.

Donations in Richard’s memory may be made to the Newton Wellesley Charitable Foundation-Vernon Cancer Center, 2014 Washington Street, Newton, 02462.
