Obituary

CARUSO, Nicholas Richard

November 19, 1921 - August 1, 2017, of Dedham formerly of Milford. Beloved son of the late John and Mary (DePalma) Caruso. Loving husband of Rose (Ohanessian) Caruso of Dedham for 70 years.

A U.S. Army Veteran of WW II where he proudly served as a combat medic and recipient of the Bronze Star Medal with “V” for Valor. His love of the military life continued as he served in the Army Reserves, with the rank of 1st SGT (everyone called him “Top Sarge”). He spent his career helping other veterans as the Chief of the Orthopedic Dept. at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Boston until his retirement. He and Rose enjoyed their retirement in the sun and surf on Hollywood Beach, FL walking for miles everyday and continued to follow the Boston Red Sox as a lifelong loyal fan.

He was the loving father of John Caruso and his wife Valerie of Boynton Beach, FL, Nancy Caruso of Dedham, and Joyce Caruso and her wife Ashley Tyler of Newburyport. Devoted brother of Jeanette LeBlanc and her late husband Albert of Upton, Marie Johnson and her late husband Martin of Milford, and the late Lucille and Peter Costello of Milford. Grandfather of Matthew Caruso and his wife Emily of NJ, Adam Caruso and his wife Roxanne of VA, and Alexander Caruso of FL. Great-grandfather of Soren and Declan Caruso of NJ. Loving uncle to many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, Sunday, Aug. 6 from 4-8pm. Funeral service in the funeral home, Monday, Aug. 7 at 11:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 2pm. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Fisher House Boston, P.O. Box 230, S. Walpole, MA 02071.
