Elizabeth Claire Kingsland, 31, of Mystic, died on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017. She was the beloved daughter of Stephen and Barbara Kingsland of Mystic.

Born on April 30, 1986, in New London, she grew up and attended schools in Mystic. Beth had a beautiful singing voice and was a longtime member of the Chorus of Westerly from the age of 7. She especially enjoyed attending the Chorus’ Camp Ogontz in the White Mountains of New Hampshire every summer; it was her favorite place in the world.

She studied at UCONN, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in linguistics. After college, she joined the U.S. Navy, rising to the rank of Petty Officer First Class, and was most recently assigned to Fort Gordon in Augusta, GA. She worked for the NSA, serving as a linguist and cryptographer, and was qualified in 15 languages including numerous Arabic dialects and several European languages. She qualified as Expert in rifle and pistol shooting and trained fellow service members in the use of firearms and firearm safety.

Beth was a dual citizen of the United States and of Australia. Her joy in living, love of nature, her creativity, beauty, keen intellect, and wicked sense of humor endeared her to all.

Beth is survived by her parents and many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Carrie.
