Obituary


Edmond “Eddie” J. Solomon, age 93, of Methuen, MA, died Friday July 28, 2017, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born, lived and educated in Lawrence MA, prior to moving to Methuen, MA where he spent the rest of his life.

Eddie started his culinary profession at the age of 14, as a butcher for From George. During his professional career he owned and operated Eddie’s Meat and Quality Market and then Eddie’s Delicatessen in Lawrence, MA. He was able to fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming a culinary arts teacher, as well as cluster chairman at the Greater Lowell Regional Vocational Technical High School. Eddie was known for his generosity and his willingness to help anyone. He prided himself on spreading love and kindheartedness.

After the bombing of Pearl Harbor, Eddie felt a calling and joined the United States Navy. He served as a Signalman aboard the LST 1011 in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was awarded four medals for his service. He was a member of the greatest generation and was proud of his service in WWII.

He was an avid fisherman and carpenter. His greatest love was his family. The family would like to thank his wonderful caregivers, as well as his very special Hospice nurse, Sheila Hubbard.

Eddie is survived by: The love of his life, his wife, of 63 years; Theresa (Hatem); His sister Mary and late brother-in-law Fred Faris; His brother-in-Law Dr. Charles Hatem and his wife Barbara; His sister-in-law Mary Ann and her husband Maurice Hatem; His daughter Janice and her husband Michael Solomon, His daughter MaryEllen and her husband Samuel Kalil, His son Chief Joseph Solomon and his wife Michelle, His daughter Emily and her husband Timothy Getchell; and his daughter Phyllis and her husband Jeffrey Getchell; 14 grandchildren and his 6 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Ed was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Emily Solomon.

Friends and guests are invited to call on Monday, July 31, 2017 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence St. Methuen. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Tuesday, August 1, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Anthony’s Maronite Parish, 145 Amesbury St, Lawrence. Interment to follow at St Anthony’s Maronite Cemetery on North Lowell St in Methuen, MA.
