Obituary


PARSONSFIELD- Nancy Lee (Fadden) Smith passed away peacefully at home in Parsonsfield on Saturday, July 22nd, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on February 7, 1936 to Phillip Fadden & H. Frances Riley and grew up in Hiram & So. Hiram, and graduated in 1954 from Porter High School, where she was a cheerleader and majorette.
On November 27th, 1954, she married her sweetheart, Raymond R. Smith and they made their home in South Parsonsfield, Maine
She was a wonderful wife and stay at home mom and grandmother and great- grandmother which was her full time job for many years. She was a wonderful babysitter for many families in this area. She was also very proud of her time of writing for the Sanford Tribune, her time working with the “Rose Wrapping Ladies” and then being the Lunch Lady for several years at the Fred Morrill Elementary School.
She served her community well by working at the polls for many years at the Town Offices, collecting “Dollars for Scholars”, and enjoyed her time as a member of the Parsonsfield Extension for many years. She was also proud to be on a women’s softball team when she was in her 50’s. She was a member at the Limerick Free Baptist Church for several years and then became a long time member of the South Parsonsfield Baptist Church from 1979 to the present. While there, she took on the role of many positions, such as pianist, Sunday School teacher, Choir Director, Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer.
She was an avid Red Sox fan, liked playing Bingo, any board games, card games, horse shoes, doing jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, reading, doing cross stitch, traveling, visiting with anybody and everybody, singing and playing the piano, bowling with her grandchildren, dancing and tap dancing.
She started each day in prayer for her family and friends, reading her Daily Bread and her Bible and doing her daily crossword puzzles. She ended every day watching Wheel Of Fortune and Jeopardy and Red Sox games when they were on. Her love for God and her family and friends are what she will always be remembered for.
Besides her parents, Nancy was pre-deceased by several siblings, her beloved husband, Raymond and her great-grandson, Maxwell. Surviving are her sister and brother-in-law, Janet and Stan Richardson of Bridgton, ME, her sister-in-law, Lorraine Fadden, her children and their spouses: Lois & Frank Gaff of Peabody, MA. Gary Smith of Parsonsfield, ME., Leanne & David Pooler of Parsonsfield, ME., Rhonda & Chris McLain of Parsonsfield, ME., Ryan & Kati Smith of Nottingham, NH., Trisha & Scott Walker of Portland, ME., her 13 Grandchildren & Spouses: Joey & Michelle Pauline, Barrett Smith, Brianna Smith, Bradley Pooler, Jaime & Kurt Garland, Andrew Gaff, Ross McLain, Ricky Gaff, Riley Smith, Cole Smith, Jack Smith, Greyson Walker and Hattie Walker, her great-grandchildren Bella Cornish, Lenox Brawn, Tenley Smith and Brayden Garland, many nieces, nephews and cousins and very dear friends.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home on Thursday, July 27th, 2017 from 5-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at the South Parsonsfield Baptist Church on Friday, July 28th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a graveside service at the Maplewood Cemetery in Parsonsfield, ME.
