Obituary

Patrick Joseph Mahoney, Jr. 70, a resident of Derry, NH for 39 years died on Tuesday, July 18. Born to Bridget O’Connor and Patrick Mahoney long-time residents of Arlington, MA formerly from Ireland, Patrick grew up and attended Arlington Catholic High School. He went on to discover his lifelong passion at Hamden School of Pharmacy; Boston, MA. His career as a pharmacist began in the Boston and Lowell, MA area. He retired from Manchester VA Medical Center several years ago. For over 25 years, Patrick was deeply devoted to his patients and often heard saying, “I’ve got something for that”. He was incredibly interested in medicine and how it aided and improved the lives and health of his patients, especially the veterans.
Outnumbered by women since he was born, he always joked, “It's a surprise I’ve lasted this long,” as he’d smile and laugh.

His spirit is carried on by his wife of 41 years Kathleen (Fuller); his daughter Jennifer and Derek Butland, granddaughters Adriana and Sabrina of Westford, MA; and his daughter Meghan Mahoney and Bobby Peterson of Woodstock, VT. He is also survived by his sisters and their families: Betty Doron of Winchester, MA; Barbara Mannis of Ann Arbor, MI; Joan Goudey of Everett, MA; and Patricia Brown of Avondale Estates, GA. He was predeceased by his sister Mary Briand, of Woburn, MA.

Patrick was a proud, caring, jovial man who was always eager to share a smile and a joke with friends or just people he met in the bank or checkout line. He was a welcoming host who loved to spend time and chat with friends and family. He enjoyed being poolside, watching his girls’ swim meets as a “volunteer swim official” and cheerleader for the Pinkerton Academy Swim Team from 2000-2003. Patrick enjoyed traveling with family, watching the Red Sox, and taking the time to enjoy life’s little moments.
Please raise a toast and give a final farewell to a loving husband, father, brother and friend.

Patrick wished to be cremated and there were calling hours at Saint Anne’s Church, 26 Emerson Avenue, Hampstead, NH, on Saturday, July 22nd from 10 – 11am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00am. The burial followed in the Cambridge Cemetery, 76 Coolidge Ave., Cambridge, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the American Cancer Society or American Lung Association, or to St. Anne’s Church. The Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 15 Birch St., Derry assisted the family with arrangements.
