Obituary

Daniel J. Conceicao, 74, of Acushnet passed away Sunday July 16, 2017 at St. Anne's Hospital. He was the husband of Ruth A. "Bunny" (Pope) Conceicao.
Born in New Bedford, the son of the late Joseph and Anna (Duarte) Conceicao, he lived in New Bedford for many years before moving to Acushnet 16 years ago.
Daniel was formerly employed as a chemical processor for the Polaroid Corporation.
He played semi-professional football for the James P. Murphy Club and one year with the Quincy Giants, which was the farm team for the Boston Patriots. He also played softball and basketball for several area teams.
Danny has touched many lives within our community. For 29 years he and his wife were foster parents caring for more than 150 children through their home. He also was very involved with youth football for the past 50 years beginning with the New Bedford Barristers and the New Bedford Redskins. Dan was the co-founder and administrator of the New Bedford Bears Pop Warner Football for the past 35 years.
Survivors include his wife; nine children, Daniel Conceicao, Jr., Leisha Conceicao, David Conceicao and his fiancée Nancy Reverdes, Tracy Cabral and her husband Robert, Derek Conceicao and his wife Jocelyn, Jazmyne Conceicao and her fiancé James Ewell, Janessa Conceicao, Jarid Conceicao and his fiancée, Alisha Souza, and Jordan Conceicao; his siblings, Josephine Tyler and Francis Conceicao; 17 grandchildren, Tiare Gomes, Davon Conceicao, Diandra Conceicao, Caroline Cabral, Derrell Conceicao, Dana Conceicao, Deshawn Conceicao, Brett Cabral, Jaeliana Ewell, Daviana Conceicao, Alijah Conceicao, Jaelani Ewell, Jazarie Ewell, Daiden Conceicao, Julius Conceicao, Aysin Conceicao and Dejalyn Conceicao; two great-grandchildren Daejon Conceicao and Jaevon Morales; and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late James Duarte, Elizabeth Ray, Anthony Conceicao, Paul Conceicao, Joey Conceicao, and Richard "Kiki" Conceicao.
His Funeral will be held on Friday July 21, 2017 at 8 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at Our Lady of the Assumption Church at 9 AM. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Thursday July 20, 2017 from 3-8 PM.
