New Bedford – Maria Isabel Amaral, age 91 of New Bedford, passed away on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Edmundo J. Amaral and the daughter of the late Leontina (Botelho) and Benjamin Souza Melo.
She was born in St. Michael, Azores and came to this area in 1970; she was employed at Marco Clothing.
Maria is survived by her children, Gabriella Melo of South Dartmouth, Cidalia Carlos of North Dartmouth, Armando Amaral of Acushnet and Albano Amaral of Bridgewater; 5 grandchildren, Mark and Paul Amaral, Carla and Tony Carlos and Robert Melo and she was grandmother of the late Catherine Melo. She is also survived by her great-grandson, Leonel Rodriguez and 2 great-great grandchildren; sisters, Berta and Mercedes Pacheco as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her visiting hours will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. at Perry Funeral Home. Her funeral will be on Friday beginning in the funeral home at 7:30 A.M. with a Mass of Christian Burial following at Immaculate Conception Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St John Cemetery.
