Obituary

Kathleen A. (Ponanski) Allaire passed away peacefully on Sunday July 16, 2017 following a long illness. Kathy was born on July 4 th 1951 in Woonsocket. She was predeceased by her parents Peter and Ann V. (Kennedy) Ponanski. She is survived by one child, Jeffrey R. Allaire of Blackstone, MA and two siblings, Peter Ponanski and his wife Gail of North Smithfield and Christine E. Farrell of Greenville and one nephew, Ryan Godin of Glendale. She is also survived by several cousins including Ann Laramie of Amesbury and Jean Mahon of Woonsocket. Kathy leaves behind a close friend and dedicated caregiver Gisele Chapdelaine of Woonsocket who assisted her immensely throughout the years of her illness.
In years past, she worked at Grace Holmes and also as an inspector at the Burton Box Company in Attleboro. Kathy earned an Associate’s Degree in Social Work from CCRI in 1990. She was faithful to her church and religious practices. In 1993 she became a professed member of the Secular Franciscan Order. At that time, the chapter met at Sacred Heart Church in Woonsocket under the direction of Fr. Burton Richman. She loved volunteering, finding it very rewarding. She was particularly dedicated to serving elderly people in need in Woonsocket and surrounding communities.
Kathy will be sincerely missed by all who knew her.
Her Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday at 11:00 am in Precious Blood Church, 94 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Paul’s Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 am, prior to Mass, in the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket.
