Obituary

CHICOPEE – Lawrence J. “Larry” Deshaies, 87, a longtime resident of the Fairview section Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Monday, July 17, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at The Atrium at Cardinal Drive in Agawam surrounded by all the memories that he loved and cherished. He was born in Torrington, Connecticut on March 26, 1930, a beloved son of the late Ronald H. and Noella M. (Houle) Deshaies. He was raised and educated in Torrington and moved to Holyoke around 1946 where he lived until moving to Chicopee in 1955. He was employed for many years at American Pad and Paper in Holyoke and retired in 1997. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. He was an avid race car fan and enjoyed many races in New Hampshire and the former Riverside Speedway in Agawam. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends. He was predeceased by his beloved wife and best friend, Jeannette L. “Jean” (Duguay) Deshaies who was Called Home on December 26, 2014. They were married on September 17, 1955 at Immaculate Conception Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 59 years of happiness together. He leaves his six loving brothers and sisters, Norman Deshaies and his wife, Claudette, of South Hadley, Doris Bushey of Holyoke, Jeannine Landry and her husband, Norman, and Mary-Ann Aubuchon and her husband, Gerald, all of Chicopee, Ronald Deshaies and his wife, Agnes, of Easthampton and Paul Deshaies and his wife, Milagros, of Ohio; his loving sister-in-law, JoAnn Duguay of South Hadley; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Deshaies and Duguay families. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also predeceased by his loving brother, Raymond Deshaies who was Called Home on January 26, 1982; and his loving brother-in-law, Leo Duguay who was Called Home on October 24, 2007. His Funeral will be held on Friday morning, July 21, 2017 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family will receive friends on Friday morning, July 21, 2017 from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
