Obituary


Arlene (Metcalf) Fortier of Brockton passed away July 16, 2017. Arlene was born in Wrentham, MA and was the daughter of the late Frank H. and Jennie C. (Walters) Metcalf. Following high school graduation she moved to Brockton and worked for the Gilchrist Department store and then as a telephone operator for New England Telephone. Arlene married and stopped working outside her home to raise her 2 children; however wanting to fulfill a lifelong dream she later went to Brockton Academy and became a licensed hairdresser. She worked first for Eileen’s Style Center on Belmont Street before going on her own to create a door to door business servicing all of the high rise apartments in the city. She loved her career, which lasted more than 40 years, and retired in 2000.

She enjoyed cake decorating, floral design, cosmetics, making her own jewelry of which she sold and placed in area thrift shops, dancing reading and keeping a nice home for her family.

Arlene is survived by her children Cheryl A. Wise and her husband Ralph of W. Bridgewater and Leslie “Lee” Fortier Jr. of Wareham; her grandchildren Christina Woodlock and her husband Ed of Middleboro and Candace Roy of Taunton. She was also Nana to Sydney and Jamey Woodlock, Amanda and Cody Pasquarosa and Madison Roy. She was the sister of Kenneth Metcalf of MD and the late Russell, John, Leonard and Clifford Metcalf, Evelyn Vendetti and Lillian Okuliczki. She was the former wife of the late Leslie Fotier Sr. Arlene also leaves many nieces and nephews.

Visitation in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont St. (Rte 123) Brockton on Friday 4-6pm immediately followed by a funeral service at 6pm. Cremation will follow and burial of ashes in the family lot in Center Cemetery, Wrentham at a later date.
