David W. Tipton, 61, of Ocilla, Georgia, died Saturday, July 15, 2017, at Dorminy Medical Center in Fitzgerald.
Funeral services will be held 3 PM, Wednesday, July 19, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with the Rev. Terry Cole officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2 PM. Interment will take place 2 PM, Friday, July 21, 2017 at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens in Rome, Georgia. The family will greet friends following the interment.
David was born May 12, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late John S. & Marie Welch Tipton. He was a high school graduate and worked at West Rome Baptist Church while living in Rome. He enjoyed walking and traversed many miles throughout the city of Rome. He moved to Fitzgerald in 2004 and worked at Harvey’s. He enjoyed the many friends he made through the Jessamine Place. People in Fitzgerald will remember David riding his three-wheeled bicycle across town to run his daily errands. He enjoyed talking politics and was quite the historian in classic television shows. He loved listening to music, particularly Christian Rock and the oldies of the 60s and 70s. David was a member of First Baptist Church of Fitzgerald.
He is survived by his sister, Lynne Tipton Morris & Dennis of Fitzgerald; half siblings: Wanda Tipton Falconer & Tom of Leesburg, FL, Yvonne Tipton Hanson of Randallstown, MD, Eleine Tipton Adams & Waylon of Montgomery, AL, and John Charles Tipton & Loretta of Yakima, WA; as well as nieces and nephews that will greatly miss their “Uncle David” and his Tipton and Welch cousins.
