…formerly of Tewksbury, mother of eight; 85
TEWKSBURY - Mrs. Helen R. (Dupuis) Ferreira, age 85, a former resident of Erlin Road in Tewksbury for over thirty-five years, died peacefully on Wednesday, July 12, at the Palm Center in No. Chelmsford. She was the beloved wife of John F. Ferreira Sr., who died in March 2010.
Helen was born in Lowell in October, 1931, one of three children of the late John and Mary (Fitzgerald) Dupuis, and raised in Lowell. After her marriage, they moved to Tewksbury to raise their family. She lived the later part of her life back in Lowell.
As a Tewksbury resident, she was an active communicant of St. William’s Church where she was a member of the church’s Blessed Virgin Sodality, and also taught CCD classes in her home. She also supported the church with weekly attendance at Friday night Bingo at St. William’s. She and her late husband were active at the “Old” Wamesit bowling lanes and were league members for years.
Helen loved time with her family, and cherished the memories of family vacations at Salisbury Beach, and Lake Winnipesaukee.
She leaves her eight children, John F. Ferreira Jr. and his wife Lorraine (Peloquin) of Tewksbury, Brian S. Ferreira of No. Andover, Michael F. Ferreira and his wife Nancy (Williams) of Salem, NH, Donna M. Connors and her husband Joseph of Nashua, NH, Dennis J. Ferreira and his wife Mary (Brostek) of Lowell, Stephen J. Ferreira and his wife Joyce (Murray) of Springfield, MA, Paul Ferreira of Lowell, Susan Barry and her husband Paul of Lowell; a brother, Robert Dupuis and his wife Frances of Lowell; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; one great great granddaughter; many nieces and nephews, and was predeceased by her brother, the late John Dupuis.
Visiting hours Friday, July 14, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. Her funeral will begin Saturday, July 15, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main ST. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will follow in Tewksbury Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Perkins School for the Blind, 175 N.
