Hae Yung Pyun (Chung)

Hae Yung Pyun, 84, passed away on July 1, 2017 at her home in Andover. She was born on January 27, 1933 in Jeonju, South Korea, the eldest of five children. After graduating first in her class from the College of Pharmacy, Seoul National University in 1955, she emigrated to the United States and earned her Master’s degree in Chemistry from Brown University. She worked as a research chemist at the Boston University School of Medicine for more than 20 years, and was a co-author on more than a dozen papers.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dr. Chong Wha Pyun, and is survived by her sisters, Hae Jeen Chung and Hae Ja Kim, her daughters Eumi Pyun of St. Paul Minnesota and Elise Pyun of Northborough, Massachusetts and three greatly loved grandchildren Andrew, Charlotte, and Grant.

Hae Yung enjoyed travelling, speaking with her friends and neighbors, and following the news and the Red Sox. She had lived in Andover since 1973, and was known for incredible memory, her generosity, as well as the immaculate condition of her home and yard. She was a member of the North Boston Korean Methodist Church.

Private burial was held at the Mt. Auburn Cemetery, with a memorial service to be held in August. In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the ACLU.
