Obituary

Mrs. Velma Vivian Sharpe Bedingfield, 91, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother entered into rest Friday, June 30, 2017. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Pauline Sharpe of Decatur, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Platt’s Crawford Avenue Chapel with the Rev. Dr. J. Andrew Menger officiating. Burial will follow in Westover Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1:00 PM until service time.

Mrs. Bedingfield was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. She graduated from Girls’ High School and worked for the Atlanta City Planning Commission as a graphic artist. Velma met her beloved husband of 69 years, H. Winston Bedingfield, while he was studying at the Georgia Institute of Technology. She was a member of the Augusta Sailing Club and Sand Hills Garden Club, a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Hospital, and a member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. She worked for many years during tax season at Bedingfield, McCutcheon, and Perry, CPA’s, P.C. Mrs. Bedingfield was an avid reader and had an amazing love for animals, most especially for the family Dachshund, “Willie”. She found great joy in gardening and decoupage.

Mrs. Bedingfield is survived by her daughter, Sheryll “Sherri” Bedingfield; her son, Hugh Winston “Windy” Bedingfield, Jr. (Betsy); four grandchildren, Ken Nonken (Pam), Reed Nonken (Sue), Kathleen Purvis, Kriston Chandler (John T.); ten great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Barbara McCutcheon.

Pallbearers will be Ken Nonken, Reed Nonken, John T. Chandler, Jerry Gaines Purvis, III, Mike Morel, and Jack Chandler.

The family is very grateful for all the ResCare girls, most especially Allison Marshall, Sonya Fisher, Anita Sturgis, and Debra Murrell.
