In Bourne, June 27, 2017 Ruth P. (Williams) King age 93, passed away peacefully at Bourne Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.
Ruth was the wife of the late former police officer Ralph K. King. She was born in Taunton and a life long resident. She was the daughter of the late Frederick and Catherine (Rafferty) Williams. She was a graduate of St. Mary's High School and also a member of the first cheer leading squad for Coyle High School. Ruth attended M.I.T. night school in Boston and earned her insurance license. She and her husband then opened King Insurance Agency in 1963. She later owned and operated a half size dress shop, The Young American. She was a volunteer at Morton Hospital and Taunton Public Library. She also taught at Bridgewater State College night school. Ruth was a caring and devoted person with a personality that was all her own. She was a mentor to many and taught her children to always lend a helping hand to those less fortunate. Ruth loved skiing,reading,playing her piano, painting,but most of all her beloved Boston Red Sox. She loved her time with her family and friends. The matriarch will be missed immensely by those impacted by her welcoming spirit. Ruth is survived by her children Patricia Mansfield and her husband Charles of North Falmouth,Stephen King of Taunton, Kenneth King and his wife Cindy of Gilmanton, N.H., and J. Douglas King and his wife Elizabeth of Lakeville. She,also is survived by her siblings, Donald Williams of Boynton Beach, Fl.,Jean Carter of The Villages, Fl.,Robert Williams of Beverly,Ma.,Katherine of Taunton and the late Fredrick Williams, Rita Carter, and Marybeth Pero. She leaves her beloved nine grandchildren, several great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to a visitation held at the O'Keefe-Wade Funeral Home, 70 Washington St.,Taunton, Ma. 02780 on Thursday July 6 from 9:30-11am. A funeral service will be held at 11 am. Burial will be in the family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Taunton.
