Obituary

Thompson- Vinson "Loyd" Thompson, 73, passed away Wednesday morning, June 28, 2017 at his Fernandina Beach residence.

He was born October 13, 1943 in Miami, Fl and moved to Fernandina Beach 23 years ago from West Palm Beach, Fl. He was of Baptist faith.

Mr. Thompson was a veteran of the US Navy and participated in the United States intervention during the Cuban missile crisis. He was employed by FPL for 20 years and retired from FPU after 16 years of employment. He enjoyed racing cars and airboats and was an avid fisherman. Later in life he enjoyed watching NASCAR races, spending time with family and friends and fishing more often.

Mr. Thompson was predeceased by his father, Ernest Colin Thompson Sr; mother and step father, Vinia Carolyn (Shorty) May; his brother, Colin Thompson, and by a sister Edith Isom.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Thompson; daughter, Theresa; and four "bonus" daughters, Melissa Harris (Jeff Gantt), Miranda Alcorn (Will Ivey), Melanie Liddell (Michael), and Marlana Sresovich (Emmett); two sisters, Myrtice Stratton (Adrian), and Iva Nell Scott; 19 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; many dear friends; and his two fur babies, Jake and Lexi.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, July 8, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with Rev. Noel Roberts officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Navy.
