Obituary

Gerard B. Keane, 85, of Worcester died peacefully Monday, June 26th at home. He leaves his wife of 58 years, Vera L. (Benson) Keane; sons, William of Millbury, Michael and his wife, Kathleen of Worcester, Joseph of Holden, James and his wife, Ann of Chandler, AZ, Brian and his wife, Michelle of Worcester; his daughter, Mary McGinley and her husband, Robert of Shrewsbury; his sisters, Bernadette and Agnes; a brother, Liam all of County Clare, Ireland; 15 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren as well as a large extended family in Ireland. He was predeceased by his beloved daughter in law, Lisa Keane; his sisters, Mary and Eunice and a brother, Haulie.
He was born in the town of Ennis, County Clare, Ireland son of the late William and Mary (Hynes) Keane. Gerard enjoyed following horse racing, listening to Irish programs on the radio and kept in close touch with his family in Ireland. He also enjoyed the occasional pint and a few games of Keno. He was a longtime parishioner at St. Andrew the Apostle Church and its men’s club. Mr. Keane was also a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Upon immigrating in 1952, he worked at Cranston Print Works in Webster and retired in 1986 from Johnston Steel and Wire in Worcester. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him.
His funeral is Thursday, June 29th from O’Connor Brothers Funeral Home, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 2:30 PM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be at a later date. Calling hours are Thursday, June 29th from 12:00 PM until 2:00 PM in the funeral home.
