John R.E. Simmons, 87, of Ledyard CT. passed away at Groton Regency, Sunday June 25th 2017. He was born on March 27, 1930 in Baltimore MD to Raymond Earl and Marina H. Simmons.
John joined the Navy during WWII and served on the Minesweeper USS Towhee. He met his beloved wife, Lorraine Boucher, and married June of 1948.
He worked for Pfizer for 39 years, as an electrician and eventually a shift Maintenance Foreman. He was on the police force in Annapolis, MD, Boy Scout leader, a volunteer for Ledyard ambulance and Parks and recreation.
He was a collector and builder of model ships and trains, and taught himself the art of Bonsai with a collection of over 100.
He is predeceased by his parents and 2 brothers.
John is survived by his wife Lorraine of 69 years, their children and spouses, Charlene and Thomas Burns, Lorraine and Attilio DiLoreto, Dawn and Jeffrey Fine, Adele and Craig Dixon,Tammy and Joseph Berg, John and Barbara M. Simmons, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Services are private.
