TEWKSBURY - Leon Joseph “Lonnie” Johnson, age 58, a lifelong resident of Tewksbury, died unexpected Thursday night, June 23. He was the beloved husband of Elizabeth “Beth” (Connolly) Johnson, with whom he had celebrated a thirty-first wedding anniversary this past November 2nd.
Lonnie was born in Saugus, in January 1959, one of three children of the late Neil and Barbara (Homer) Johnson Sr., and had resided in Tewksbury his entire life. He was a member of the Class of 1977 at Shawsheen Valley Technical High School. He later attended Middlesex Community College.
He was employed as a mechanical engineer for C.R. Machine Company in Billerica.
Lonnie was an avid fan of the New England Patriots football team, and a former member of the Tewksbury-Wilmington Elks Lodge.
He was lovingly described as having devoted his life to his family.
Besides his wife, he leaves his daughters, Jillian J. Johnson and her significant other, Lonnie’s other “son” Derrick Beaudoin of Wilmington, Jacqueline J. Johnson and her significant other his other "son" Craig Collins of Tewksbury, Jodi J. Johnson of Tewksbury; a son, Joseph J. Johnson of Tewksbury; five adored grandchildren, Christopher Collins, Alyssa Beaudoin, Alexis Collins, Jacob Beaudoin, and Macie Collins; a brother, Neil Johnson Jr., and Donna Pell of Tewksbury; a sister, Kim Hynes of Tewksbury; a dearest cousin, Laurie Morris and her husband Russell of Tewksbury; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lou and Judie (McCormack) Connolly of Tewksbury; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Lonnie was predeceased by his beloved son Jacob Johnson.
Visiting hours Tuesday, June 27, from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950. His funeral will begin Wednesday, June 28, at 9:00 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, No. Tewksbury. Memorial contributions to the Lonnie Johnson Memorial Fund, (Address to be announced), will be appreciated.
