Obituary

Marcel R. Godin, 72, of Woonsocket died Tuesday June 20, 2017 at home. He was the loving and devoted husband of the late Linda M. (Marshall) Godin who passed away in 2008.
Born and raised in Blackstone he was a son of the late Rodolphe and Stella (Voisinet) Godin. He resided in Woonsocket for many years.
Mr. Godin was employed at Miller Electric Company and several other firms in the area before retiring.
The love of baseball and football ran through Marcel’s veins. He was a staunch and passionate fan of the Red Sox and Patriots. Marcel lived and died with the Sox and the Pats.
Marcel was well known and highly regarded at the local level for his coaching of area youth in baseball and football. Marcel was involved with several teams that went all the way to the Little League World Championships in Pennsylvania. Local recognition included the baseball field at Cold Spring Park being named for him as a coach and manager for the former Fair/North Little League. Marcel also enjoyed golf and with his wife Linda they visited many destinations.
Marcel will be remembered as a loving brother, uncle and friend to all who knew him. He had a special place in his heart for the youth of the community and sought to instill in them the life lessons learned on the field; sportsmanship, teamwork and perseverance.
He is survived by a brother Norman R. Godin and his wife Claire of Norwich, CT and was the brother of the late Alice Boutiette. He is also survived by his nephews whom he loved very much Paul, Gerald, Daniel and David Godin all of CT and the late Roger Godin who passed away in 2016. Marcel is also survived by his close friends Bryan and Sylvia Richards of Woonsocket.
His funeral will be Monday at 10:00 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am in Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church, Park Ave. Woonsocket. Burial will follow in St. Paul Cemetery, Blackstone. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Woonsocket Little League P.O.
