Obituary

WORCESTER – Mary G. (DerDavidian) Belazarian, 93, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2017, the same day her beloved husband died in 2001, while visiting the Ogunquit, Maine area.
A daughter of Armenian immigrants, Mary was born and raised in Worcester where her late parents, Ohan and Turan (Margarian) DerDavidian settled among the many families in building the Armenian community here. She attended Worcester schools and then spent many years as a stitcher for the former Grosvenor and Comfort Shoe companies until her retirement in 1974.

Mary met a local, young Armenian man, Haig S. Belazarian and soon they married in the Armenian Church of Our Saviour on Laurel St. in Worcester on October 17, 1948. Together, Mary and Haig soon welcomed their two children, Linda and James. To Mary, family was everything. She enjoyed the simple pleasures of life; taking care of her home, providing for her family and creating wonderful Armenian dishes and baked items, all while maintaining a full time job. She was a longtime member of Church of Our Saviour in Worcester.

Mary will be lovingly missed by her two children, James S. Belazarian of Auburn and Linda M. Kaufman and her husband, Robert of Worcester; her four grandchildren, Jason Kaufman and his wife, Amy Freeland of Hoboken, NJ, Dr. Leah Belazarian and her husband, Dr. Joseph Bouchard of Westborough, Brian Kaufman and his wife, Kathleen of Norwalk, CT and Adam Belazarian of San Diego, CA; her five great grandchildren, Gregory, Cole, Cameron, Trey and Madeline; her two nieces, Teresa “Terry” O’Day and her husband, Tim of Westborough, Anne Chicknavorian and her husband, John of Fitchburg and her nephew, Harry Kachadorian and his wife, Priscilla of Natick; as well as several grand nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Mary was predeceased by her only sister, Rose DerSahakian who died in 2015.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Mary’s family on Tuesday, June 27, from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. at the Armenian Church of Our Saviour, 87 Salisbury Street, Worcester. A funeral service honoring her life will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery, Worcester. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Armenian Church of Our Saviour. Arrangements are under the care of the CALLAHAN, FAY & CASWELL Funeral Home, 61 Myrtle Street, Worcester.
