Obituary

Ruth (Bottis) Ralph Carney, 97, of Methuen, was called home to our Lord on June 19, 2017.

Ruth was born on November 18, 1919 to her hardworking parents, James and Lillian (MacAuley) Bottis in Lawrence, MA. She attended Lawrence High School graduating with the Class of 1937. Ruth had a strong belief and knew the value of a secondary education, she attended the Macintosh Business School graduating with the Class of 1938. Ruth worked in a long and rewarding career for several different firms as an administrative assistant specializing in payroll accounting. She started her career as a waitress for the Capri Café, then worked for Cooper’s Express and Craig Systems, she briefly even worked for the Sears Roebuck Co as a phone operator and at the Broadway & Palace Theater as a cashier. Always a selfless and generous person, Ruth truly believed in helping those who were less fortunate than herself. She was a foster mother for many infants through the New England Home for Little Wanderers and Catholic Charities. Ruth used her decades of experience in administrative support volunteering for Elder Services in Lawrence and at the Pregnancy Care Center in Haverhill. She also active at the Methuen Senior Activity Center and the Rainbow Club at St. Theresa’s. In the fall of 1938, Ruth married her sweetheart, Henry Ralph with whom she celebrated nearly four decades of marriage together until his early passing in 1977. She and her husband settled in Methuen to raise their family. Later in life, Cupid struck his arrow and Ruth found love again with Robert J. Carney. She and Robert were married in 1985 and they enjoyed 22 years of marriage until his passing in 2007. Ruth was a woman who loved to dance, always had a smile on her face and was a very outgoing person whose persona would light up a room. Her utmost priority in her life was her family. Ruth was a proud and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She touched many lives and she will be fondly remembered.

Ruth is survived by her three loving children; her son, Richard Ralph and his wife Mary of Cockeysville, MD, her daughter, Marilee Ralph of Methuen, MA, and her daughter, Lynda M. Bohondoney and her husband David of Methuen, MA, and her step-daughter, Kate Carney and her husband Bruce Jeranian of Chelmsford, MA. She was the cherished grandmother to her eight grandchildren; Cathy, Michael, Stephen, Kerri, Scott, Andrew, Dawn and Angela, and the proud great-grandmother to her 11 great-grandchildren. Ruth is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Rita A. Ralph of Hudson, NH. She is survived by her cousin, Vincent Gallucci of Kennebunk, ME, and her nephew, Kenny Ralph of Salem, NH. In addition to her parents, Ruth was predeceased by her first husband, Henry Ralph and her second husband, Robert J. Carney. She was also preceded in death by her son James Ralph.

Visitation for Ruth will be held Thursday, June 22, 2017, 4:00 - 7:00 PM at Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Friends and family are cordially invited to attend. A Mass of Christian Burial will celebrated on Friday, June 23, 2017,11:00 AM at St. Monica's Church, 214 Lawrence Street, Methuen, MA. Interment to follow at Elmwood Cemetery, 130 North Lowell Street, Methuen.
