Obituary

CHICOPEE - George E. "Eddie" Dewberry, 78, of the Fairview section of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Sunday, June 18, 2017. He passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Easthampton, Massachusetts on December 20, 1938, a beloved son of the late Elbert R. and Emelia (Dionne) Dewberry. He was raised in Holyoke, attended the former Saint Jerome Elementary School and Holyoke Trade High School and lived in the city for many years. He moved to Fairview in 1966 where he resided for the remainder of his life. He was last employed at Rexham Graphics in South Hadley and retired around1997. Previously, he was a foreman and worked for 40 years at the former Moore Drop Forge in Springfield. He was member of the Knights of Columbus Elder Council 69 and the Father Daniel Doyle Fourth Degree Assembly, both in Chicopee. He also was a member of the Foreman's Club at Moore Drop Forge and a former member of the Tiger's Athletic Club in Chicopee. He was a communicant of the former Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee where he also was a founding member of the Saint Mary Booster Club. During his leisure time, Eddie enjoyed puttering around his home, working in his yard tending to his beautiful flower garden and enjoyed listening to Irish music. Above all, he enjoyed spending time with his loving family and his many dear friends. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Phyllis A. (Chagnon) Dewberry. They were married on June 27, 1959 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 57 years of happiness together. He also leaves his two loving children, Robin E. Dewberry of Chicopee and Michael J. Dewberry and his wife, Wendy, of Springfield; his five cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Feder and her partner, Rob, Eric Feder, Colin Feder and his partner, Jessica, Evieanna Dewberry and Autumn Dewberry; his two cherished great-granddaughters, Aspen Goggins and Stella Feder; his two dear sisters, Dolores Stevens and Julia Grace Sulinski, both of Indiana; his dear sister-in-law, Irene Dewberry of Connecticut; his dear brother-in-law, Thomas Chagnon and his wife, Theresa, of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, friends and extended members of the Dewberry and Chagnon families. Besides his parents, he was also predeceased by his three dear brothers and two dear sisters, Elbert Dewberry, Joseph Dewstone, Amelia "Anna" Dewberry, Raymond "Rex" Dewberry and Priscilla Zenetta Hughes. His family will receive friends on Saturday morning, June 24, 2017 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 11 a.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m. and the parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home). His burial will follow the Prayer Service at Notre Dame Cemetery, 63 Lyman Street, South Hadley, MA 01075.
