Obituary

Joseph N. Soracco, age 88 of Canton, MA and Newport, RI, passed away June 16th at the Hellenic Nursing Home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Boston, he was raised in Dorchester, graduated from English High School and Boston University with a Bachelors and Masters in Music Education. He was an Army Veteran of WW II. Joseph taught Music at Tabor Academy in Marion, MA and previously was the Director of Instrumental Music in Salem, NY. He started the Medway CYO Band in 1962 and remained the director of the band for over twenty years. He was a recipient of the 1987 Lowell Mason Award, an award which was is awarded annually by the Music Educators in Massachusetts. He was also a Sales Representative for the Coffey Music Company for many years before retiring in 2005. Beloved husband of the late Marie D. (Drohan). Father of Sandra M. and Paula M. Soracco both of Canton. Grandfather of Ryan Lurvey of Canton. Brother of the late Joanne and Natalie Soracco. Visiting hours at the Dockray & Thomas Funeral Home 455 Washington St. Canton Monday 4-8 pm. Funeral mass at St. Gerard Majella Church Canton Tuesday morning at 10. Burial Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Joseph Soracco Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Joseph's Church, Box 557 Medway, MA 02053.
