Obituary

Annamae C. (Coute) Schondek, age 90 of Taunton, passed away peacefully on June 15, 2017 at Golden Living Center- Garden Place in Attleboro, surrounded by loving family and friends, under the gracious care of the entire staff. She was the loving wife of the late Rev. Deacon John H. Schondek.

Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Joseph T. and Annie (DeCosta) Coute. She was a graduate of Taunton High School in the Class of 1944.

Her passions included caring for her entire family- especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren- knitting, quilting, and traveling to Cape Cod, Newport Rhode Island and visiting family in Kentucky and California.

Annamae gave back to her community in so many ways. She knit hundreds of blankets and prayer shawls for newborn children, victims of abuse, and the elderly confined to nursing homes. She also enjoyed serving meals at local Taunton food pantries and soup kitchens.
Along with caring for her six boys, she was employed at Reed and Barton, Clifton Nursing Home and La Salette Shrine. She was a parishioner at Saint Paul’s Church in Taunton where she was actively involved in St. Vincent de Paul, taught CCD, and was a member of the Women’s Guild among many other activities. As a result of her commitment to the Catholic Church, she was a Marion Medal recipient.

Annamae is survived by her sons; John Schondek, III of NJ and wife Mary Jane, Joseph Schondek of Pawtucket and wife Joanne, Gerard Schondek of Dighton, Matthew Schondek of Raynham and wife Jane, Peter Schondek of Raynham and wife Cheryl Oldfield-Schondek, and daughter-in-law Cynthia Schondek, wife of her son the late Warren Schondek of Dighton. She also leaves sixteen grandchildren and several great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She will be deeply missed by Sr. Elizabeth Hayes of Taunton.

Her funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 9:00 am from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Saint Ann’s Church, 660 N. Main St. Raynham.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph’s Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held Monday, June 19, 2017 from 4 to 8 pm in the Silva Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Annamae’s memory made to a charity of one’s choice would be deeply appreciated.
