Obituary


May Elizabeth (Carmichael) (Pelissier) Thomas, 93, of Whitman died on Monday June 12th surrounded by her family at home.

She was the wife of the late Warren Pelissier and the late Robert P. Thomas, mother of Ray Thomas and his wife Diane of Halifax, Patricia Horger and her husband Carl of Whitman, Bruce Thomas and his wife Robin, Robert Thomas, Barry Thomas and his wife Cali all of Plymouth, Brian Thomas and his wife Nancy of FL., Gordon Thomas and his wife Kim of Taunton, Linda Thomas of Scituate and Dianne Donovan of Whitman, sister of Lillian Gilbert of FL., 17 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 2 great great granddaughters; also preceded by brother Hugh Richard Bond Carmichael, son Kevin Thomas, grandson Joseph E. Thomas and granddaughter Crystal J. Lauzon. May also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, as well as an abundance of friends from the UMC.

She was born in Brockton grew up in Braintree Highlands, the eldest daughter of the late Marshall and Marion (Sickles) Carmichael.

May moved to Randolph and married the late Warren Pelissier in 1943 in SC. Warren was shot down in WWII in 1944. She later moved to Whitman and married the late Robert P. Thomas in 1946.

Longtime resident of Whitman, she worked for Handy Hannah, Décor Novelties and Bradlees on the east side of Brockton for 20 years.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Whitman where she participated in Women’s Club and helped with annual Christmas Craft Fair and many other church affiliated events, member of the Tuesday Stitches at the Whitman Senior Center for a number of years and a past member of the Whitman VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

May loved to make mittens, hats, sweater sets and afghans, enjoyed crafting, crocheting, knitting and baking. May made over 1000 hats which were sent to Afghanistan for US troops. She also enjoyed traveling to Vermont and New Hampshire over the years to spend time with friends and family. She especially enjoyed her camping excursions with her family and new found friends.

A note of thanks to the staff nurses at Hospice of the South Shore, Caitlin McLaughlin and Hansy Douarin for all of your guidance and care throughout May’s journey.

Her services will be held on Friday June 16th at 11:00AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. (Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman. Visitation will be on Thursday June 15th from 4:00-7:00PM.
