Obituary

Milton - John F. Joyce, age 87, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on June 11, 2017 while listening to his favorite music. Born and raised in Cambridge, he lived in Milton for many years and was a former resident of Arlington, West Somerville, and Dover, New Hampshire. Additionally he enjoyed his longtime summer home in Manomet. He was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge & Latin High School and Boston College, Class of 1957, Mr. Joyce was an Army Veteran of the Korean War. He served with distinction with the 7th Infantry Division Military Police in Korea and was selected for General Van Fleet's elite Korean Military Advisory Group. Mr. Joyce retired in 1974 after being employed for 37 years as manager for New England Telephone, AT&T LongLines, AT&T Information Systems and Nynex. After his tenure at Nynex he was the Consultant Liaison Director for HOMISCO Inc. He also served as Vice President - Secretary for the Society of Telecommunications Consultants Vendor Advisory Group. Actively involved in his children’s sports Mr. Joyce coached several sports for the Milton Youth Programs, the Milton Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball among others. He was a member of the VFW and Milton K. of C. The beloved husband of Ann Marie (Sullivan), he was the father of John Joyce and his wife Kathy of Hingham, Michael Joyce and his wife Tracy of Marblehead, Kathleen Hill and her husband Lloyd of Milton, Mark Joyce and his wife Kim of Marblehead, Paul Joyce and his wife Nicole and Kristen Charron and her husband Jeff, all of Braintree. He was the brother of Marie Shanahan of Medford and Albert Joyce of Holbrook. Also survived by 17 cherished grandchildren. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Friday, June 16, 2017 at 10 am. Visiting hours will be held at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Thursday, June 15th from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
