Guilhermina (Correia) Costa, age 94 of Taunton, passed away on June 8, 2017 at Marian Manor of Taunton. She was the loving wife of the late Manuel C. Costa.
Born in Altares, Terceira, Azores, she was a daughter of the late Joaquim and Maria (Duarte) Correia.
She moved to the United States in 1969 and was employed with the Frank Noone Shoe Company for many years before taking an early retirement to raise her grandchildren.
A devout Catholic and communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton, she prayed her rosary every day. She loved family trips to the Cape and Newport, Sunday afternoon ice cream outings in the summer, listening to music, playing sueca with family and friends, and never missed a bullfight when she visited Terceira. She was an avid Boston Bruins fan and would often gather her children and families at her home to watch games and enjoy some coffee and donuts. She never hesitated to give to those in need.
Guilhermina is survived by her three sons; Herculano M. Costa of Taunton and wife Maria, Joseph Costa of Berkley and wife Ana Paula, and Gabriel J. Costa of Taunton and partner Sara, a daughter Maria F. Pereira and husband Jose; sister-in-law Odete Peixoto of CA; nine grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Joaquim Correia de Melo, Eduardo Correia de Melo and Herculana Nunes.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday June 13, 2017 at 9 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Anthony’s Church, School St. Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017 from 5 to 8 pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
