Mason B. Flagg,95, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 3, 2017, at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge. His wife of 65 years, Betty J. (Geer) Flagg died August 1, 2014.
He leaves three children, Jane A. Flagg-Guilbert and her husband Jerry of Southbridge, Susan E. Frederick and her husband Richard of Shrewsbury, and Mason G. Flagg and his wife Carol of Sutton; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mason was born in Worcester, son of Levi F. and Lucy E. (Bancroft) Flagg, and lived in Worcester many years before moving to Charlton.
He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII in the newly formed 10th Mountain Division and was a sergeant in the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star with two oak leaf clusters. Known as the ‘Man of the Mountain’ at Wachusett Mountain, he was an avid skier, golfer and 10 speed biker. He was a master Mason for many years, serving in several lodges, most recently Guiding Light Lodge in Auburn, a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Springfield, and a member of many American Legion posts.
Over the years he found time to donate a total of 23 gallons of blood. He wanted to give back what was given to him.
He will be missed by his family and many people whose lives he touched in many ways.
He celebrated life by doing everything he wanted to do.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be 10:30AM on Saturday, June 24, 2017, in St. John’s Cemetery, 260 Cambridge St., Worcester, with burial of both Mason and Betty Flagg.
There are no calling hours.

The ROBERT J. MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd., is assisting Mr. Flagg’s family with arrangements.
