Barbara A. Childs died peacefully with her sisters at her side on June 6, 2017. Daughter of the late Alonso Day Childs and Ruby (Poole) (Cerrato) Childs, Barbara lived most of her life in Rockland and died at St. Joseph Manor in Brockton.
While living in Rockland, Barbara was a member of Joy in Christ Church in Abington. After moving to Emmanuel House, she attended the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Brockton. For over thirty-five summers, Barbara camped with her family at Ellis Haven in Plymouth. For over thirty years, she was a certified nurse’s aide at Colony House Nursing Center in Abington. A very social person, Barbara participated in activities at both the Rockland and Hanson Senior Centers. She enjoyed playing Bingo at various locations and listening to music. Barbara was an accomplished counted cross-stitcher; with her attention to detail, she created many beautiful pieces which she gave as gifts and which are worthy of display.
Barbara leaves her sisters Patricia M. Gladbach of Hanson and Claire E. Childs of Brockton and her nephews Warren W. Gladbach, Jr. and William Cerrato, Jr. She was the sister of the late William H. Cerrato and the aunt of the late Michael Cerrato.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of St. Joseph Manor and the staff of Old Colony Hospice for the love and compassionate care they provided for Barbara and for her family.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123), Brockton on Sunday, June 11 from 2-5 p.m. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday, June 12 at 9 a.m. for a funeral service in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 900 Main Street, at 10 a.m.
