Obituary

Dorsey King, born Aug. 27, 1932 in Tracy Branch, Ky., died June 6, 2017 in a Louisville hospital. He was preceded in death by his infant daughters, Sandy and Cindy; his parents, Garrett and Amanda; his parents in law, Bill and Della Graham; two brothers, Horace and Tracy; two sisters, Joan and Kathy; two brothers in law, Bill Johnson and Billy Graham; and two sisters in law, Laura Graham and Teresa King. Dorsey is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty Graham King; his sons and daughters in law, Michael and Kristine and Brian and Jen; five grandchildren, Jonathan, Daniel, Stephanie, Caroline, and Katie; two brothers, Don and Ben, two sisters in law, June Johnson and Rose King; seven nieces and nephews, Cheryl, Jim, Jeff, Sharon, Penny, Becky, Tracey, Garrett, and Sara; and many other family and friends.

Dorsey was a veteran of the United States Army and spoke often of the year he was stationed in Whittier, Alaska. He graduated from Tri-City Barber College in Louisville and practiced his profession for 42 years. He was also an entrepreneur and owned several businesses in Louisville and in Jacksonville, Florida. He was an avid golfer, and, since both his boys are alumni, Dorsey was a proud fan of the University of Florida Gators.

Dorsey professed his faith in Jesus Christ at Beechland Baptist Church in Louisville and served as a deacon and Training Union Director there. He later served as a deacon and leader in churches in Florida and Tennessee.

A gathering of family and friends in Dorsey’s memory will be held at the New Buffalo Missionary Baptist Church in Clairfield, Tennessee at 1:00 on Saturday, June 10. Dorsey’s cremains will be interred in the family plot next to the church.
