MAYES - Nora Ann Mayes, 84, of Yulee passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Community Hospice Warner Center in Fernandina Beach.
She was born August 23, 1932 in Delhi, LA and moved to Yulee over 60 years ago.
Mrs. Mayes was a member of The River of Praise Worship Center where she served as Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and was president of Willing Workers. She was willing to volunteer to do what needed to be done at the church and enjoyed taking people to church.
She graduated as Valedictorian of her high school class and was award a college basketball scholarship.
Mrs. Mayes was a retired school bus driver for the Nassau County School Board. She was a devoted Christian.
She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Joseph "Joe" Mayes; a son, Barney Ray Mayes, and by a son in law, John Cooner.
Survivors include a son, John Lacy Mayes of Yulee, FL; two daughters, Vickie Haskew of Fernandina Beach, FL and Brenda Cooner of Yulee; a brother and sister in law, William and Sondra Crider of Minden, LA; one sister, Jennie Manning of Fernandina Beach; seven grandchildren, Robert "Tony" Haskew, Bryan Mayes, Jonathan Mayes, Ashley Hill, Erica Smith, Joshua Cooner and Chelsea Cooner; 12 great grandchildren, Brooke, Aubree, Flynn, Norra, Gunner, Brady, Madison, Ryan, Mayes, Rowan, Conner and Shiloh; her caregivers, Theresa Hulett and Marie Parker, and her granddog, Lucy Cha Ching.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday June 10, at the River of Praise Worship Center, 2188 St. Mark Dr., Yulee, FL 32097. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. Mrs. Mayes' four grandsons will her pallbearers.
