Obituary

…bookbinder, Las Vegas resident; 82
BILLERICA - Joseph Edward Castro, age 82, a retired bookbinder, and former resident of Las Vegas, died peacefully Tuesday morning June 6, at Sunny Acres Nursing Home in Chelmsford.
He was born in Somerville in July, 1934, one of fifteen children of the late Antonio F. and Eliza (Sousa) Castro, who emigrated from Madeira, Portugal, and settled in Cambridge. Joe attended Cambridge Rindge Technical High School.
He enlisted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and served as a Heavy Motor Gunner in Seoul, Korea. Following his honorable discharge, he began his working career as a bookbinder at Stanhope Binder, and later at Murray Printing for a total of twenty eight years. He moved to Las Vegas, and worked at the Mirage for an additional ten years.
Since his move to Billerica, he has been a member of St. Theresa’s Church, and an active member of the Billerica Senior Center’s Traveling Table Pool Team. Joe had been a resident of Brightview Assisted Living in Billerica for the past year where he enjoyed his friends and activities.
He was predeceased by his twin brother George A. Castro, Anthony Castro, Alfred Castro, Manuel Castro, Albert Castro, Gabriel Castro, David Castro, Adam Castro, John Castro, Lawrence Castro, and Eliza Guerriero.
He is survived by his siblings, Diana Souza Castro of VA, Rosemary Hepp of IL, Dorothy Menize of Tewksbury, sister in-law Maria Castro of Peabody; and numerous nieces and nephews including his primary care-givers, Denise and Raymond Blanchet with whom he resided in Billerica, and care-givers Jill and Joseph Perlupo of Dracut. We would like to thank the staff at Brightview, Sunny Acres and Compassionate Care Hospice for their support.
Visiting hours Friday morning, June 16 from 9:00 until 10:30 in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main Sts. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, Ph. (800 in MA or 978) 851 2950, followed by his Funeral Mass Friday, June 16, at 11:00 in St. Theresa’s Church, 466 Boston Rd., (Rte. 3A) Billerica.
