New Bedford – Maria C. “Soia” Santos, age 89 of New Bedford, passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late Marcos A. Santos and the daughter of the late Joana Carolina Silva and the late Joaquim Barboza.
She was born in Cape Verde and moved to this country in 1993. Maria was a loving mother and grandmother to her family. She was also a member of the Woman’s Club of Cape Verde.
She is survived by her children; Maria Sylvia Vieira of Rome, Italy, Rita Santos of Chelsea, MA, Manuel Joao Santos of Cape Verde Island, Maria Barros and her husband Nuno of New Bedford, MA; as well as mother of the late Nair Vieira of France and the late Joaquim Filipe Santos and his wife, Agda of Cape Verde Island; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; stepchildren; Mary Ramos of New Bedford, Anna Perry and her late husband, Billy Perry of New Bedford, as well as stepmother of the late, Patsy Ramos of New Bedford; siblings; Sergio Barboza and his wife Margarida of Cape Verde Island, Paulino Silva Britto of Cape Verde Island, as well as sister of the late Antonia Britto, Julia Pina and Rone Silva Britto of Portugal; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Her visiting hours will be held Friday evening from 5:00 – 8:00 P.M. Her funeral will be Saturday beginning in the funeral home at 8:00 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Assumption Church at 9:00 A.M. Burial will follow in Rural Cemetery.
