Obituary

Charles L. “Charlie” Rose, of Stoneham, a long time Medford resident passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, June 2nd. He was 81. Raised in Somerville he was the son of late George and Agnes (MacDougall) Rose.

Charlie was a graduate from the Saint Catherine Grammar School and Malden Catholic High School class of 1953. Where he was a stand-out hockey player and a part of the championship team. He then attended Boston College graduating in 1957. Charlie served in the Air Force Reserve. He was a proud member of the American Legion Post 45 for thirty years and served as the treasurer.

One of his greatest accomplishments with the help of his loving wife Mary beside him was running the P.J.’s Sub City in Medford Square for over 30 years, considered as the Cheers of Medford. Their shop was a gathering place for great food, conversations and lasting friendships. Charlie was a devoted husband, father, papa and great-grandfather he will be remembered for the love he shared with his family and friends.

Charles was the beloved husband of the late Mary (Coakley) Rose. He was the devoted father of Karen Fopiano of Stoneham, Patricia Barnaby and her husband Peter of Medford, Annemarie McNeil and her husband Robert of Woburn, Lisa Mastrorilli and her husband Patrick of Wilmington, Laura and her husband Joseph of Stoneham. Loving papa of Lisa, Charles and Joseph Fopiano; PJ Barnaby and his wife Erica; Marisa Barnaby and her fiancé LJ; Bobby; Brendon and Brianna McNeil; Julianna and Ginamarie Mastrorilli and Mary-Rose O’Melia. Loving great-grandfather of Casen and Mia Barnaby. Also survived by his beloved dog Jake.

His funeral will be from the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford on Wednesday, June 7th at 10:30 AM followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 441 Fellsway West, Medford at 11:30 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday from 4 – 8 PM. Services will conclude with burial Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
