John D. Strand, 72

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

John D. “Jack” Strand, age 72, of Mansfield, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of his home, with his loved ones by his side on Saturday, June 3, 2017. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois E. (Girard) Strand, to whom he was wed for nearly 37 years at the time of her death on July 10, 2007.

Born in Boston, MA on December 17, 1944, he was a son of the late Angelina C. (Scipione) Strand and Lloyd M. Strand.

Jack grew up in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston and was educated in Boston schools. During the Vietnam War, he proudly served his country as a member of the United States Navy and was honorably discharged from duty on April 8, 1966 with the rank of EM3.

Jack was the retired owner of Axent Communication, Inc., a company he proudly operated along with the help of his family. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past forty-six years, and was a member of the Mansfield VFW and the Mansfield Lodge of Elks.

His family was the focal point of his life and he treasured times spent with his grandchildren. Jack was an avid New England sports fan, and loved listening to music. He also enjoyed playing card games and trips to area casinos.

He is survived by his devoted daughters Christine E. Cook and her husband Bill of Stoughton, Susan J. Seifert and her husband Nate of Mansfield, and Jennifer L. Strand and her longtime boyfriend Jason Lachapelle of Cumberland, RI. He was dear brother of Carol McMichael and her husband Bob of Virginia. He was the cherished grandfather of Sofia, Madelyn, Morgan and Gabriella, and is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend a service in celebration of his life on Friday, June 9th at 10:00 A.M. at the Sherman & Jackson Funeral Home, 55North Main St., Mansfield. Burial with military honors will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Mansfield.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, June 8th from 5:00-8:00 P.M. at the funeral home.

In place of flowers, Jack’s family has requested that donations in his memory be made to Old Colony Hospice, 321 Manley St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379.
