Obituary

Betty A. (Carlson) Kelly, 86, a lifelong resident of Brockton, died Monday May 22, 2017 at the Brockton Health Center. She was the devoted wife of John F. Kelly for 63 years. Betty was born and raised in Brockton a daughter of the late George and Emma (Rudden) Carlson. A 1949 graduate of Brockton High School, Betty worked for New England Telephone for over 10 years before she started her family. Once her kids were grown, she went back to work for the Brockton Public School System as a cafeteria worker for many years before her retirement.

In her free time, Betty enjoyed shopping, traveling, bowling, line dancing, and trips to the beach. She loved to socialize with friends and relatives, especially when she was entertaining or attending family gatherings.

Betty will be remembered as an outgoing, thoughtful and loving lady who loved being with her family, especially her grandkids and great grandkids.

In addition to her husband she is survived by her children Paula Lyon and her companion Wayne Crowley and Robert Kelly, all of Brockton. She leaves 5 grandchildren Derek Lyon and his wife Ellen, Brianne O’Donnell, Ryan O’Donnell, Erin DeChristopher and her husband Michael and Kelly Lyon. She also leaves 12 great grandchildren. She was the mother of the late Patricia O’Donnell and sister of the late George Carlson, Jr.

Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont Street (Rte. 123) Brockton, Thursday from 4-7pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home Friday at 8am for a funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 9am. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
