Obituary

Alan James Cullinane, 52, of Truro passed away suddenly on Wednesday May 17, 2017. He was the husband of Patrick Drummey-Cullinane.

Born in Cambridge Mass., he was the son of Charles and Rosemarie (D'Amaral) Cullinane. Raised in Goffstown, NH, he graduated from Goffstown High School in 1982. After high school, he left his small hometown and headed to Boston, where he pursued many of his artistic interests with a passion for photography and watercolor.

In 1985 Alan discovered Provincetown. He took a summer rental with friends, worked at a retail shop and became enamored by all that Provincetown had to offer. He knew he'd be back!

Alan's love of food began with a job at Star Markets. He began his career in 1986 as an overnight baker, worked his way thru the ranks to assistant manager, manager and finally to District Manager of Bakery Operations. After nearly a decade with Star Markets, Alan was itching for a change.

In the Summer of 1994, Alan returned to Provincetown spending every weekend enjoying all the wonders of Provincetown, the Point being one of his all-time favorite hangouts. Provincetown once again stole his heart. It was at this time he learned of a restaurant opportunity. Taking a chance, he quit his job, and bought Cafe Heaven. Together with his friend Liz Lovati, he moved, lock, stock and barrel! to Provincetown and pursued his entrepreneurial dream of owning his own business. After much success at Cafe Heaven, Alan once again was itching for more... and Angel Foods was born. His spirit, innovative approach to business, and creativity will forever be part of the fabric that has made these two businesses an indelible part of Provincetown for nearly a quarter of a century.

Alan had many passions. He had a ferocious love for travel. He cherished the many memorable trips around the globe with Patrick. A beach, a mountain, a desert, an island, it didn't matter, he was always up for an adventure! Most recently, Alan and Patrick spent a glorious month in India exploring its people, customs, architecture and cuisine. Alan and Patrick spent countless hours enjoying their home, Alan cherished time in his studio making art, in his kitchen creating extraordinary meals, and in his garden tending to his plantings. Alan loved antiques and many an off-season day was devoured hunting for additions to his many collections. Alan had a special bond with the many 4 legged friends that he shared his life with over the years. Miss Kittle, NuKat, Otis, Milo, and Mitch.

Ultimately Alan was a creative spirit with a passion for beauty, music, and art which always found its way into his professional endeavors. Alan's life imitated art. His youthful spirit, humorous outlook, and creative nature were a gift to all he encountered. He will be sorely missed.

In addition to Patrick, his adoring husband and partner of 18 years, he is survived by his father Charles and stepmother Mary of Florida, his stepfather Ed Butler of New Hampshire, his brother Charles and wife Laura of Maine, his sister Cynthia Sarcione and husband Rick of South Carolina, his brother Michael and wife Louise of New Hampshire, and his brother Kevin and wife Christine also of New Hampshire. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and so many caring and supportive friends and employees. Alan was predeceased by his mother, Rosemarie
