TEWKSBURY – Elia Chibas, affectionately, known as “Al,” age 97, died peacefully May 19th, at her home in Tewksbury. She was the beloved wife of the late Leo D. Chibas who passed away on February 1, 2016. They had spent 74 wonderful years of marriage together.
Elia was born in Athol, on May 11, 1920, one of 6 children of the late,
Louis and Elizabeth DeSantis.
Elia and Leo lived in Tewksbury since 1955, and in their retirement years, wintered in Clearwater, Florida.
While living in Tewksbury she so loved to work in her garden and gently tend to her flowers and plants.
She also enjoyed visiting with her neighbors.
Elia always warmly greeted her family at their meticulously maintained home, and was happiest when they were all present. Her family said; “Our fondest memories will be of her love of family and the warmth she brought to her loving relationships.”
Al leaves behind her beloved and wonderful daughter and son-in-law, Marianne E. and William Tsimtsos of Tewksbury; a grandson, Steven Tsimtsos of Norton; a granddaughter, Susan Desmond and her husband Joseph of Tewksbury; four adored great grandchildren, Ashley and Alexis Tsimtsos, and Elena and Nicole Desmond. She also leaves behind her sister-in-law Eldora Bishop of Foxboro, MA.
Visiting hours Monday morning, May 22, from 9:00 until 9:30 a.m. in the Tewksbury Funeral Home, corner of 1 Dewey and 975 Main St. (Rte. 38) TEWKSBURY CENTER, followed by a Funeral Mass on MONDAY, May 22, at 10:00 a.m. in St. William’s Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial will in Gethsemane Cemetery, Athol. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Leo D. Chibas Scholarship Fund for Electrical Engineering, P.O. Box 336, Athol, MA 01331-0338.
