Obituary


Ilirio Costa, 80, of Whitman, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Hospital. Born in Brava Cape Verde and immigrated to the U.S. in 1967, he lived most of his life in Whitman.
Ilirio was a passionate man who enjoyed Fishing, going out on his boat and being in his garden. He worked 39 years as a Machine Operator for Plymouth Rubber Company in Canton. In his spare time he enjoyed repairing watches, playing card games, and watching TV (especially Spanish shows and Westerns).
Ilirio was extremely loving and proud of his children, Carolina Glenn of Abington, Susan White of Whitman, Juselena Scott of Wareham, and Jeannie Lennox of Halifax, Emmanuel Costa of Lakeville, and Joao Costa of Brockton. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years and best friend Ana Sousa Costa of Whitman. He is also survived by his sisters Maria Costa, Manuela Camara, Maria Young, Claudette Xavier, Marianne Baptista Costa and brothers Joao Costa, Benjamin Alves, Martin Da Costa, Sylvio Da Costa as well as his eleven grandchildren and other friends. Ilirio was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
Ilirio was always there to help family and friends with household projects, support his family for so many years working so hard and in whatever way they needed him.
His Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 23nd at 10:15 from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth St. ( Rte. 58 at the rotary circle) Whitman, followed by a funeral mass at 11:00AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visitation will be held on Monday May 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9PM
