Obituary

Jeanette (Vanover) Lewis, 80, of Salem, died Wednesday, May 17th at the North Shore Medical Center/Salem Hospital, following a brief illness. She was the devoted wife of James W. Lewis with whom she shared 32 years of marriage.

Born in Clintwood, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Leonard and Alma (Senter) Vanover. She and her husband moved to Salem in 1985 where she began to work as a fashion consultant for notable North Shore boutiques. She was a Daughter of the Nile, an avid gardener, and enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, and creating Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls for friends and family.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Michael Cox and wife Kathy of New Iberia, LA, a daughter, Virginia Hartshorn and husband Todd of Mason, OH, two stepsons, James W. Lewis, II and wife Calie Lynn of Monre, MI, and Steven Lewis of Dallas, TX, three sisters, Toni Spahn, Ida Greta Tuller, and Kathy Tiller all of Virginia and a brother, Jennings Vanover and wife Jo of PA. She also leaves four grandchildren, Nicholas Hartshorn, Nathan Hartshorn and wife Mariana, Nicole Jeannette Hartshorn, Cherie Ann House and husband Jason, and a great-granddaughter, Olivia House as well as many nieces, nephews, friends, and her precious gem schnauzer, Pearl.

Relatives and friends are invited to her visiting hours on Sunday, May 21, 2017 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Route 114 / 1-A] Salem. Her funeral service will follow in the funeral home on Monday, May 22nd at 10:30 AM. Burial at a later date will be private.
